  1. Hi. I have some FLV files (obtained from YouTube) that I wish to edit. Avidemux is not an option as it gives the warning “only flv1 and vp6 video are supported”. So what I'm doing is this:

Using FLVExtract to create separate audio and video streams.
Muxing these into an mkv file with mkvtoolnix (the 'mmg.exe' function).
Editing the mkv file with SolveigMM AVI Trimmer.

The result is excellent but I wonder if anyone knows of a better/simpler solution? For example, is there an add-on for mkvtoolnix that allows it to edit files? (I know it has a 'split' function but that's no good to me.)

    Thanks for any advice.

  2. you might be using an outdated avidemux version

    try version 2.6 builds

  3. Thanks, poisondeathray. I'd never have known about the 2.6 builds - even going to the developer's site (via this site's link) only gives you the 2.5 versions. Most odd...

Flv loads nicely with the 2.6 build but, unfortunately, it still says "“only flv1 and vp6 video are supported”.

Ah well, thanks anyway. I'd still like to know of any other methods of editing these flv's. My own method gives perfect results but it'd be good to cut a step out e.g. get mkvtoolnix to do the editing rather than solveig.

PS - I think I've found a bug in the 2.6 version in that the button to take you to the end of the scene doesn't work. Nor can you manually go to the end of the scene to make it your 'B' point.

  4. avidemux is not a good option at all. it says it can cut mp4 files. but you can not fix the cut point at your will. many a times it failed to cut mp4 files at the required points. it is all about the said 'b' frame....

Just copy the video/audio to .mp4 in AviDemux. It's already in AVC/AAC. You just need to change the container.

    Then use SolveigMM Splitter.

  7. Thanks for that. Actually, the new build of avidemux DOES process the Youtube flv's but it more than doubles the file size for some reason. So I'm sticking to my own method - toolnix to convert to mkv then solveig to edit.
