Two players ago my Onkyo played AVIs with .srt subtitles. It finally died and I got a Pioneer, only to learn no .srt capability. Bummer, as I'm a bit hard of hearing and have several films with these subs

Then there's the elapsed and total time question. The Pioneer shows nothing on ANY content, I don't remember on the Onkyo. This ET function would be best for me up on the main screen, toggled with PAUSE on the remote, rather than on a tiny readout across the room on the player. Do any players have this, or even just the tiny readout?

I do need an HDMI out with also a coax or optical audio out. So do any good players have all these things? Lastly, though I don't own any BD content, I'd be happy to start up, so BD would be nice too.

From what I could see the players database doesn't include any tickable entries for subtitles or elapsed time. I did a text search on both srt and elapsed with no (or no helpful) results.

Thanks. This means a trip out to a big box with a test DVD should be worth my time if they let me try playing it. I assume you mean the srt factor, or did you mean the timer too? I guess I'll find out...

I bought an LG Blu-ray player as a Christmas gift for my parents last year. While playing a movie I can see the time elapsed, run time, and some additional information about the movie by pressing the "INFO/MENU" button on the remote. A test disc is a good idea, and so is downloading and skimming through the manuals for the players that interest you.

thanks, well now I'm embarrassed, my Pioneer has a "Display" button on the remote. One press gives elapsed/remaining/total and other info, the second press the same for the chapter. I was DUH, I never knew this. I do know it doesn't play SRT though, as I called Pioneer tech on it.

The elapsed time problem is solved, IF I were to keep this Pioneer. The SRT question for me remains open until a test, a purchase, and repeated good results. But yes we can say discussion is suspended. Thanks all!
