  1. I'm going to make a VCD from a DivX movie, approximately 600MB. Should I convert it to an MPEG first, then split it in two, or should split it into two AVIs and then convert each section to an MPEG?

If there is any advantage to doing it one way over the other, I would be appreciative to know.

    Thanks

  2. Why do it in any of those ways ? why not just encode the original DivX in two parts to MPG ? will save you the cutting stage all together.

  3. i'd split the avi. Because i find avichop does the job the fastest.

  4. I'd strongly recommand using the Source Range in TMPGEnc to encode the DivX in two parts, will save you alot of trouble.

  5. I posted at the same time as sefy apparently... I'd have agreed with him had known this was possible.(is it a setting in tmpgenc?)

Regarding your question, yes, it's an option in TMPGEnc, in the Settings - Advanced you will have Source Range, and there you can select which parts you want to encode by selecting a start and end frame.

  7. I think I understand how to use the Source Range feature. When you do that, do you have to convert the first half first, then go back and do the second part once it's done or does it all together for you?

Also, I was wondering since you are breaking up the AVI with that, does it know to break the WAV file you use as the audio source in half to match the video as well?

  8. It doesn't break up the AVI, it simply encodes a specific part of the AVI into an MPG, you can do as many parts at once as you like, I suggest you use the Wizard Mode and create a Batch Project, and then you can do all the parts at once and then it will do all the encoding for you.
