I have an oldish Samsung 8mm camcorder with A/V output connected to a Dazzle digitiser connected to USB non my pc. I want to record and edit with the AVI4U suite.
1. I can record the visual, but there is no audio. I've tried on my pc and my laptop.
2. I can listen to the soundtrack if I plug in an earpiece directly into the camcorder, so that proves there is a soundtrack.
3. If I import a music track into the AVI editor or play a cd normally, it will play through the speakers, so that proves the audio system is working.
Why can't I get the soundtrack from the tapes?
Glad of your expert advice.

Check your audio (Sound) settings in Windows 'Control Panel' and see if you have the input audio from the USB device selected.
And welcome to our forums. -
Thank you for your quick reply. The audio (recording) input shows only microphone and line in, no USB. Shouldn't the system have picked up the USB automatically? If not, how can I make it recognise the USBs?

In my experience, you have to check 3 possible places for this type of issue to resolve it. You have to check under Windows in the Control Panel for Sound and be sure that it hasn't muted your source. If you have a sound card installed rather than using system sound from the motherboard then you have to check under the sound care software GUI to be sure that it also hasn't muted your source. Finally you have to check the software that controls your video capture software and be sure that the correct input source is selected.

Thank you. I've tried all of those, without success. The choice of audio inputs appears to be limited to 'microphone' or 'line input'. There is no option for audio through USB. I've tried connecting up through all the USBs and the pc updates the connection, so the USB is working for video at least.
Any other ideas? -
It's possible you have a defective device.
But I would try the manufacturers site, maybe a forum there, or the FAQ and see if they have any ideas. Also check Windows 'Control Panel>Device Manager' and see if anything shows up with a yellow check mark as in a missing driver.

Fixed! Having erased all the software with a view to re-installing, I noticed that the installation offered an option not to install USB drivers. I unchecked this.
Then Dazzle and the AVID software worked perfectly!
What I conclude is that the somewhat old Dazzle software was loading USB1 drivers, which do not allow video and audio, as I understand it. USB2 drivers do.
Thanks to all members for their help!
