I recently pulled the video footage off my camera via an Imac (please don't shout at me) as this is the only Firewire enabled system I got.
I copied the file to my P4 system and the file has no extension, just "Clip 03.", when I tried to put it in to TMpeg it just says "File 'D:\Clip 03' can not open, or unsupported"
I tried increasing the priority of the AVI VFM to 1 but still no luck.
As far as I know the file is raw DV format, if that means anything, it isn't .avi or anything like that.
Can TMpeg convert this or will I need another converter?
Cheers

I haven't tried what you are doing, but I would just give a shot at adding the .avi extension.
To the best of my knowledge, there is no "raw" DV format for the computer. The DV info on the camera is already compressed, and the file transfer process adds a header which shows the file to be avi with very specific format (720x480, interleaved, 48kHz sound, etc).
If the capture program uses Type 1 DV, then the file just has an avi header and the sound is interleaved with the video. If Type 2 DV is used, then an additional sound track is added that is identical to the original but is not interleaved. -
cheers Eric but still no luck.
I renamed to .avi but TMpeg still said "unsupported" :(
What you said about the transfer of DV from camera to PC, is ths the same for Mac or does it add some sh*t?

Will the file play on your system? If so, then the file is ok and TMPGenc just lacks a codec for DV.
I just tried a DV file on a computer that I don't capture on, and TMPGenc also said unsupported. I'll need some outside help on this one, cause I really don't know what needs to be loaded to make TMPGenc work. My main system has had so many things loaded and unloaded, and the DV encoding has just always worked.
Can anyone help here? -
Since you captured and saved the DV file on your iMac it is probably a DV codec QuickTime MOV file.
You may be able to open it in TMPEnc using the TMPGEnc QuickTime MOV plugin after adding the MOV extension to the file. There are also PC based QuickTime > AVI converter programs like MOV2AVI. Check the Tools section of this site.
You could also try checking the save/export options in your Mac capture program to see if it allows you to save directly as a DV AVI file instead. This might make it easier to work with on the PC. If you are using iMovie and it doesn't allow for this, try the Pro version of QuickTime Player.
