  1. My question is, if the DVD that you want to rip to SVCD or VCD is not of good quality (a bit BLUR, colours are NOT quiet as they should be and the movie is not sharp), what options or programs are there to get better performance when you convert them to SVCD or VCD. If there is a way, do you have to do this while encoding or is possible when it is already a SVCD or VCD. I hope someone can help me with this.

  2. Ideally you should use DVD2VCD with Cinema Craft Encoder - run it at 2 pass (4 pass for improved quality). This will give you probably the best quality you are likely to get. Your only problem now is getting a copy of Cinema Craft Encoder SE that is if you dont have a copy already.

I once heard a saying on this board i've learned to live by

    CRAP IN, CRAP OUT
Meaning if your input is crap so will your output.

Your output will only be as good as your input.

So if your trying to better the quality of a bad looking DVD dont expect much, Even if you are using 4-pass with the cpu hungry/hog CCE.

  4. DVD2SVCD:

For noise you can increase the noise filter option between 8 and 12 in the encoder (CCE) tab. But it will blurr the movie a bit and if its already to much blur for your taste your pretty much screw.

You will have to make a choice, you either fix the noise or fix the blurr with a sharp filter. You cant really fix both

  5. you can't get better than the source....

some DVDs are authored badly....some aren't even digitally remastered...(i.e. old jackie chan movies on DVD)

gotta live with that...also, older movies have crappier colors as their technology back then wasn't all that great
