  1. I installed some windows update and tried restarting my HP laptop. It wont completely start up. Just hums and shows a greyish screen. But never goes anywhere. I tried holding the start button to shut off, even took out the battery, but i never starts up again. This is Win 7.

    Any ideas?

coincidence most likely. if it doesn't get to the windows boot up screen it is most likely a hardware problem.

  3. I tested it and it is the laptop monitor. Only 2 years and its dead. Crappy HP. I called support and they wanted to charge me $160-360 to fix the screen.

But they said to try to reload all the drivers and see if that solves anything.

  4. connect external monitor and while booting if there is no picture to the laptop monitor but on external then it's probably lcd monitor on the laptop itself, if there it is but not in windows 7 then maybe its driver issue. If your laptop doesn't start up you should take out battery and reset the bios and see how that goes.

I don't think that windows update or any software installation can make some hardware error or screw it. The most damage can it do to the files or windows installation itself it can't destroy your laptop or pc
