  1. None of the hacks listed in the database seem to be working for me. The manufacture date on my model is newer, October 2011, so this may have something to do with it. I am desperate to watch some region 2 dvd's I've just brought home from the UK for the holidays with my family...any suggestions on how to do this?!?!?!?

    Region 2 DVDs?
Those DVDs will also be PAL video format. How will you get past that?

What you can do is install dvdfab and rip the dvd to your computer and burn it to a blank dvd, your curtis will play pal dvds as long as they are region free and welcome to the forums.

Manufacturers change hardware all the time during production and this can break hacks that worked in the past. Also Hollywood puts pressure on everybody to stop producing players that can be hacked and sometimes manufacturers go along with this late in the production run.

As hech54 points out, if you live in North America there's a good chance that your TV can't handle a PAL signal, so unless you can set the DVD player to output NTSC video then even if you do get the region code removed on the player or the discs, you still may not be able to watch anything. You can play them on a PC with the free VLC player (it does not check region codes) so that's always an option.

It might be worth mentioning that despite their official denial, Philips still produces many DVD players that can be made region free. Just do NOT upgrade the firmware after making it region free or you may break region free mode.
