    Hi,
I was wondering If anyone else had run into this? My issue is that I can render out a Standard Definition SD (720 x 486i 29.97 fps) .AVi with alpha and place it on the time line in Newtek Speed Edit 2.0 and 2.1 (editor) with no problem getting the overlay to work with the alpha showing through with a graphic I have created out of Adobe After Effects CS4. The settings I use that work are .AVi RGB+Alpha, millions of colors+, Format: No Compression. It is when I try to use a High Definition HD (1920 x 1080i 29.97 fps).AVI, with the same configuration settings out of AECS4 I can activate the alpha with the overlay and see the underlining footage. The problem is I cant get the alpha to remain see though during play back of the timeline or when I render the project the alpha and Graphic is Blank and shows a black square on the screen. I would like to now the work around or render settings to this issue that others have discovered and overcame. I would like to work with .AVi files because it is native to Speed Edit 2.0 and 2.1, I can get an .MOV file to work but that is not the codec that works for me and my work flow. I know there is a way to make the HD .AVI with alpha work because my predecessors for my job position have discovered how to make it work for them, I am just unable to figure out how to make it work for me, I just know that it is possible. I am pretty sure have actually tried every combination of settings in rendering out of AECS4 to try and make this work. Any input would be appreciated.

    Sincerely,
    Confused

  2. what happens if you re-import the export back into AE or other editors? If it's ok, then it's not an export problem, it's a Speed Edit compatibility issue. If it doesn't work, then check your export settings more closely

You can use other AVI wrapped formats lossless compression with alpha e.g. huffyuv, lagarith , ut video codec . All have a RGB+A mode

Thank you poisondeathray, I re-imported the file and the .avi file with alpha plays back fine in CS4 AE, so no issues with the rendering process. I will download the codecs you suggested and see if I can get them to work. I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the lead poisondeathray. Thanks to you and some other forum posters. I followed your lead and looked into codecs available for SpeedEdit 2.0 from NewTek and found a codec pack there and downloaded "NewTek Multi-code Pack" (located in my downloads in SpeedEDIT Downloads) from NewTek, installed and viola. I no longer have the rendering issues With alpha not showing through like I did before. As a matter of fact I can now work seamlessly with SD and HD sized projects with no headaches what so ever. Thank You so much.

    Sincerely,
    Not confused
