  1. Pioneer DV-C503 Stopped Playing CD/VCD Still Plays DVD's. On startup it spins up with the display showing loading, then all of a sudden it switches to open and pops the tray open.

It wont play and VCD's even old ones that worked fine. Also wont play any music CD's anymore including store bought.

    Any clues?

(Player is only 13 months old)

  2. maybe it's possessed?

sorry for that smartass comment, couldn't resist, i mean, the tray opening up by itsef isn't normal. i have no clue what the problem could be,i'd say that maybe the lens is scratched but if it still plays DVDs, that's not the problem. you're probably best off contacting pioneer support for your problem, if it's bad enough, you could probably get a free replacement.

  3. I had the exact same problem on my Apex 660...Out of the blue it stopped playing my vcds..Dvds still played fine. VCDs would give me a "no disk" error...I opened it up and cleaned the lens with a q-tip and some tape head cleaner i had. After that all was well and it once again plays virtually anything I put in it. Dont waste your time with those cleaning kits that have a cd with a little brush glued on it. They have never worked for me.
    Good luck, hope this helps.
