What we need is a BD list of good vendors-ID's. Lordsmurf has it for DVd's but, at two bucks a pop this is very necessary. I know one to avoid already: Mitsubishi Kagaku Media, Co., Ltd. VERBAT-IMU, 1-6x, LTH, 25 GB. If I see this crap when I open the cake, back it goes!

As far as I've been able to tell all BD discs are currently being made only in Japan. I've been using Taiyo Yuden LTH BD-R discs for some months now and I love them. It's kind of hard for me to believe that the problem with Verbatim LTH BD-R discs is that they suck rather than your burner having issues. LTH is a workable technology and your burner seems to be recent enough that it SHOULD support it as Sony does support the format. I'd love to know what speed you are burning at as I do not burn above 4x ever for any DVD or BD media and I don't have those kinds of problems. I just stick with Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim for BD media although maybe I would buy Sony too in a pinch (I do have one Sony BD-RE disc) and that's it. I guess it's possible that Verbatim's LTH media is just not as good as it could be, but I'd have to test it myself to see as I know for a fact that both of my BD burners can burn TY LTH discs with no problems at all.

I burnt 6 LTH Verbatim discs and none would play in my LG Blu ray player. A couple of the burns were incomplete but, the complete ones failed to play-check disc was the player's reply. I burn at 4X. I then burnt the movie to a BD RE at 2x and it played fine so, I know my equipment is working fine. I used BD 97238 Verbatims without any issue in the past. Therfore, my system does not like LTH but, yours does. Go figure this high tech world we live in.

LTH media is also known to be incompatible with a number of stand-alone BD players.

Did you see my last post in your related thread? Verbatim has a toll free number for LTH support. They offer to replace LTH media with HTL media if you purchased Verbatim LTH BD-Rs and they turned out to be incompatible with your burner or player.

  5. If you go to the DVD Media list over there <--, just filter results for BDR. There's a fair bit in there, but the list is by no means exhaustive.

If you're asking for some recommendations, I can give you a few:

    1) VERBATIMc
    2) CMCMAGBA3
    3) RITEK BR2

Yeah, I know, CMC and Ritek. But you can get them for about a buck apiece and I haven't had any coasters yet on my LG burner out of at least 50 discs each. Each one verified, passed transfer test with OptiDriveControl, and played through on a standalone. How they'd do on your burner is anybody's guess.

The CMCs are sold as Titan and Philips. The Riteks are of course sold as RiData.

OTCBDR001 are Optodisc (also about a buck each) and a total bust with my burner, so I'd avoid those.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

You cannot use your player to check the validity of your LTH burns since it obviously does not support the format. You would have to check on a PC with something like Total Media Theater or PowerDVD (ugh!) to verify that the discs are actually OK.
If your player is a few years old then this is a known issue. A player made in the last couple of years really should support LTH discs. My player supports TY's LTH discs with no problems. but the only time I used a BD-RE disc it barfed immediately on it and refused to play it. Go figure.

Anyway, SOME older BD players have firmware upgrades to support LTH media. I do not know if such an upgrade is available for your player or not. In general I do not advise applying firmware upgrades to BD players unless you are absolutely and totally convinced that the firmware upgrade has something on it that you cannot live without. There is always a small chance that something could go horribly wrong and brick your player and it will be a nuisance to have to deal with the manufacturer about a replacement.

Finally, if you really want to give LTH discs one last shot in the hope that the issue is Verbatim specific rather than LTH specific, if you contact a major online disc retailer privately like Supermediastore or Rima, you may be able to explain your situation and talk them into selling you 1 Taiyo Yuden BD-R LTH disc to test with. It won't be a bargain and they may not agree to do so, but I have known of some retailers who were willing to sell 1 disc to consumers for testing purposes so that the consumer didn't have to gamble on buying a whole stack of discs they can't use. I cannot give you false hope though as my belief is that your problem is LTH specific, but I offer this as a suggestion if you feel otherwise.

Yes, thank you. However, when I called Verbatim they said they would not make any replacement. However, I called Newegg and though they could not accept them as a return, for obvious reasons, they gave me a 50% credit on my next purchase from them which I thought was fair.
I could not play them on the PC either with Total Media Theatre but, at least I know what works for me now.

Thanks to all for your inputs..
