I just bought a used Sony DCR_TRV350 Handi-cam. This an older video camera, but it works great and the price ($30.00 CAN) was good.

After looking at the manual and some sites on line, I have found that it has a built in TBC and noise reduction feature. It also can convert AV to Digital as a pass-trough.

My question is: Can I use this camera to record VHS tapes via the AV to Digital pass-trough to my computer via USB? Will the TBC in this camera defeat Macrovision? What program or programs (free or otherwise) would be the best to use to do this? The camera kit came with a bunch of cables.

    Thanks

No, it will output IEE1394 Firewire so will work to a Firewire port but not to USB. Probably not, my Sony Digi8 camcorder detects the Macrvision and shuts down the pass-through. WinDV.

I have this camcorder to mostly use just the AV-in to digital pass-through feature. It will only pass through FireWire, not USB. Original VHS tapes which have Macrovision will shut down the pass-through. The TBC works in that jittery VHS tapes look less so when they are already DV-AVI files. I use Premiere Pro CS5, but Windows Movie Maker and other programs of that ilk can readily identify it as Sony DV camcorder.
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".
