  1. What I would really like a tool for is this: simple editing of 1 or more frames at the same time.

I've got a video that is time coded. But for at least 75% of the time, the time code area doesn't block any real action and could easily be photoshopped away. For example several minutes where there is just sky behind it.

Is there a tool that doesn't need an ultra fast PC that would allow me to make the same edit to several frames at once? That would save an enormous amount of time.

Photoshop ? CS3 Extra onwards can load video (of appropriate formats) and be used to manipulate one or multiple frames.

Or you can use virtualdub to output still images and try batching with something like irfanview or an older version of photoshop

  3. Looks like that photoshop version then. Batch encoding would also be possible, it would only require more organization.

Don't get hung up on the word "logo".

You simply make a mask with a white rectangle that covers the area of the time code.
I've done exactly that on videos with a text crawl, for instance.

Not quite as precise as doing each frame by hand, but a thousand times easier.

No, but I hang up on the word 'opaque'. The time code is a black square (with digits in it obviously). I need to copy paste stuff over it, but it's not always the same stuff. Sometimes it is sky, some of it is wall, some tent fabric... the point is to completely remove the square by filling in the gap. For 25% this won't be possible, but it will look OK for 75% of the time.
Your method would only work if I made a mask for every different thing I would paste.

Opaque means you can't just subtract the logo and darken the result, as you can for an alpha blend logo (many channel logos are like that).

I'm not sure you understand how Xlogo works.
The masked areas (covernig the "opaque" logo, or in your case, the timecodes) is filled in by extrapolating from the edges inwards. So sky, grass, walls, etc are filled in almost unnoticeably.
In any case, if you know Avisynth, it's very simple to just try it and see for yourself.

If you posted a few images, frames of your video, it might help.

There are more elaborate logo and subtitle filters. E.g., VirtualDub MSU Subtitle Remover.

The best one is supposed to be Inpaint. But that takes a lot more work to understand and use. I never have, Xlogo and Nologo work well enough and are simple to use.

  7. Hang on, I think I went wrong with opaque, a word which I don't normally use.

  8. Back. Somehow I read opaque as meaning transparent. Now, this is actually a good option. Mind you, it's a bigger surface than most logos. So there may be some distortion. But only in the places that would have been too hard to photoshop anyway.

Yes, thanks, must definately see how this works out.
