Could anyone tell me the best method to convert .mkv to AVI keeping the AC3 track.
The reason I ask is I have just bought a new Philips 46" LED 7000 series TV which I can plug my external hard drive into but the problem is some of the films are jerky, not all of them but some of them. I've checked bitrates and all sorts and I can't find anything in each film that would explain why it does this, size doesn't matter, 1080 or 720 doesn't matter but I did download a BRRip and it works fine with excellent quality. I want to convert my existing films on my hard drive to AVI instead of hunting for them again so any help would be appreciated thanks

You can try xmedia recode. Convert to avi with xvid and under audio choose copy to keep the ac3 audio.

Maybe you`d like to PM`me your programming request, as I`m planning to put together a converter for MKV.
... after an evening out, after a dozen of pizzas, larger, nuts & chips, and after a-few-days smashing & fixing & chjecking new windows 7 you may get it to run....
