I tested out a Verbatim DVD+R jewel case single (Taiwan, Advanced AZO) with the older mostly white packaging/label (bought in 2008) on my Panasonic A120, and it seemed to play fine. I then bought two 100 packs of Verbatim DVD+R Taiwan, AZO (blue & purple wrapper) on sale for $26.95 each, and the 1st DVD (burned at 4x) made would not play on my Panasonic A120, but plays on my Philips 724. Any idea why? Verbatim DVD-R works fine on my Panasonic with the exception of a few brief pixelated spots now and then. Verbatim DVD+R DL works on my Panasonic.

could be a number of things

could be your burner is old and may need a firmware update or the burner itself could be goin bad

if the burner is newish then it might be the media. The 100 packs of anything are not the quality of say a 50 pack or smaller but i've bought a couple of 100 pack verbs from newegg and haven had any issues

also could be the brand of burner you have

i order my verbs from supermediastore and never burn anything past 8x...havent had a single issue

I tried again using the same DVD burner but at 8x instead of 4x and got the same result (no play on Panasonic, but play on Philips). I burned a DVD ISO from one machine using a different machine and a different DVD burner (external Lite-On), and this time the result was playable on Panasonic. I suspect my original DVD burner needs a firmware update, but how do I do that? I don't know what brand my DVD drive is and the only thing I can tell is HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N when I right-click it and click on Properties. My DVD software shows that same name as my DVD drive but with C108 at the end. I did a web search that turned up the HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N name but with some extra characters at the end, so I'm not sure if the update for that will work for mine.

from reading around that burner has a few issues with playback on certain dvd players etc...this is a firmware update i found for it posted below...just download the zip...open it up...go into the windows folder and run the .exe file...this one is the last known update for that model...btw, that model is an LG burner...its a couple years old at best...imo, its the burner itself. If u have $19, I would go to newegg.com and order a newer burner like an ASUS or optiarc..they're dead cheap and reliable

There's not any truth to that.
    It's just a myth.

    The discs are the same.

I've purchased several 50 packs as well as 100 packs of Verbatim dvd+r discs over the years and never had any issues with quality of burns from either batch.

The C109 firmware update didn't fix it. I'm just going to install my external Lite-On on my desktop and hope nothing conflicts with anything. It's weird that I could burn on the older Verbatim DVD+R and play it on my Panasonic fine, but the newer DVD+R won't play.
