I am capturing some old VHS tapes for a friend of mine to my PC's hard drive. XP SP3. I have a Pinnacle PCI capture card, and Pinnacle Studio 9 software. So far I have captured (4) 2hr tapes using the mpeg capture SVCD compatable setting. The files are approx 2 gb and 2 hrs long. The specs are: mpeg2 480X480 29.970 fps NTSC 4:3 2400 kbps.
Here is the problem: The files play fine on my PC using WMP and MPC. I can copy the files from folder to folder on my HDD with no problems. I am unable to burn the files to data DVD-R, or copy to a USB thumb drive for transfer to my buddies PC. When I try to do this I get error messages that read "unable to find file" or "unable to copy file".
I am stumped.

In WMP is says "file is missing media usage rights"
More info: I did not mention in my OP that I want to burn or copy these files in data format and give them to my buddy so he can load them on his computer for editing and authoring to DVD.check out my videos:

what i'd try is making a new folder, right click copy the video file, paste it in the new folder and then try to copy that entire new folder to the usb stick.

It's a shame the two of you couldn't share a couple of hard drives (or one) for this venture. It seems a waste of dvd media - and a hard drive transfer would be easy.

Can anybody help me figure out why I cannot copy these files to a USB thumb drive or burn them to DVD data disc? I tried ImageBurn as suggested and at the end of the burn I get a "I/O error" message.
Thankx to allcheck out my videos:

you may have to "kill" a process that is locking the file.--

I was able to burn these files to blank DVD-R using ImageBurn. ImageBurn would not work with DVD-RW. I would still like to figure out why I cannot copy these files to a USB thumb drive, or burn to DVD-RW.
Anyone??check out my videos:

This is a fairly long thread so I apologize in advance if I missed something, but it seems that you did not specify your OS. Are you using Windows 7 or Vista by any chance? I'm fairly new to Windows 7 and I've noticed some weird problems in trying to write to USB sticks. There are some weird permissions things going where the sticks get mounted in some kind of read only type mode. However, doing a Copy from the original file and a Paste to the USB stick has worked for me. I do get prompted asking me if I really want to do it, but the paste does happen when I click to go ahead and do it.
ImgBurn will burn to DVD-RW discs, but do note that re-writable discs can go bad. I find Nero easier to work with to erase re-writable discs. If you have Nero you might try using it to see if you can erase them. If the DVD-RW is being written to for the first time it has to be initialized before you can write to it.
