  1. Hi

I would like to open a FLV file in virtualdub. The FLV contains a .264 file.

I installed ffdshow and flvinputdriver, following the steps described here: http://stream-recorder.com/forum/open-flv-files-flv1-vp6-freeware-editor-t5612.html

I can open some flv files, but not the flv containing a .264 file. I guess that is because FLV Input Plugin for VirtualDub does not support h264 video codec. But I can't use directshowsource either... nor I can't open the .264 file with AVIDemux. Maybe it works for .h264 but not .264... what is the difference between these two extensions?

Well.. if there is no way to open directly such flv files in virtualdub, I guess I have to convert it... but I don't want to lose quality and the lossless formats are very heavy. What tool would you use to convert such flv to uncompressed avi file?

Any other advices to edit these flv files in vdub without loosing quality would be appreciated.

It's not easy, see https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/333352-AVC-H-264-MP4s-displayed-black-by-VirtualDub...on-drag-n-drop for a mp4 with h264 and you will give up directly...

You could try use latest xmedia recode to convert to an avi with some lossless codec like huffyuv.

mmm.. that doesn't really make me want to try But I really want to solve this problem... is it worth to read the whole thread since it's about .MP4 and I try to open a FLV file?

What would you do? Convert to a lossless format, persist in trying to open it with vdub... or any other solution?

    YES

Try this: FLV input driver by fccHandler

  5. thank you for the advices
I could solve my problem this way:
    - I extracted the .264 file with FLV Extract
    - I put the file in a mkv container, using mkvmerge
    - I imported the .mkv in virtuadub using the Matroska plugin

but I still have a problem with the framerate... When I merge the .264 file in the FLV container, mkvmerge ask me to set the framerate as it can't be recognized. The framerate of my FLV is 30fps... but if I set 30fps in mkvmerge, my output video plays too fast. What's the problem?
