well, some slide have leaked out of amd which cover where bulldozer and "fusion" siblings will fall into place performance wise:

as you guys can see the top of the line 4 module 8 core fx8100 will be comparable to the i7 2600, the 3 module 6 core and 2 module 4 core will compete against the i5 2500.

all the bulldozers will be black edition and have the second generation amd turbo feature.

on the bright side amd does embrace a marketing strategy of competing primarily on price, so they may price bulldozer very enthusiast friendly.

in this heavily thread benchmark, two 16 core bulldozer based opterons running at 1.8ghz are about 2.4 times faster than a core i5 2500 with 4 cores+HT (8 threads) running at 3.3ghz.

two 16 core opterons at 1.8ghz works out to 57.6ghz of performance which allowed it to complete the render in 25.97 seconds while the 2500 took 61.65 seconds, so it took 2.28 times as much total processing ghz to reduce the rendering time by factor of 2.4.

it looks like amd is aiming at just matching sandy bridge's performance rather than beating it, i guess amd is happy with just "good enough".

Its all about the Total package tho isn't it? 50% of desktop processors (sold this year) are going to be gfx included .. so if the price is right, or the gfx are better, or the gfx and price are both right then they have something that will sell. All they need is some good game that will play well on their proc but markedly less so on Intel, something like "Elite" or "Doom" (LOL). I am tempted to wait out for next gen and UeFa Mobo's.
Oh and if they get the whole "you can use (all) the (transcoding) facilities on the chip even if you don't want to be stuck with stoneage graphics" right, then people will flock.
