  1. I recently ripped a Funimation dvd (Strike Witches) using RipIt4Me. When I did, I ripped it as an ISO file with Menus, extras, the works. The file plays back just fine with VLC Media Player, but when I transfer the ISO files to my Seagate FreeAgent Theatre, the copy protection scheme in the file prevents it from playing back properly. It is using the scheme where it has 99 files and only about 10 are the actual video file.

I have tried many programs to try to remove the encryption (AnyDVD/Clone DVD, Fab Decrypter, 1Click DVD Copy, SnowFox, Handbrake, Quick Media Converter). I also installed the DVD43 plugins. SnowFox came closest to doing the trick, but crashes about 30 minutes into the conversion process.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this work? Originally I wanted to keep the original DVD structure as far as menus and extras, but now I'm to the point where I'll be happy if I can just get it to play on my Seagate box.

Did you try latest dvdfab decrypter beta? And be sure to check dvdfabs and anydvds forums for info.

Both RipIt4Me and DVDDecrypter were abandoned years ago to settle lawsuits and neither has been updated in a long time. Neither can handle the copy protection schemes that have come out since they were abandoned. I would have expected AnyDVD to work but I'll take your word for it that it didn't. Try DVDFab Decrypter as Baldrick suggests.

  4. I'll give it a shot. Already tried to do it from the ISO image I already have with no luck, so sometime in the next couple days I'll get a hold of the DVD's and try again.

  5. Do I have this straight?

    1. You ripped a DVD with modern protection using obsolete software.

    2. You no longer possess the DVD.

    3. When you said you had tried AnyDVD, DVDFab Decrypter, etc., you meant you used them to rip the bad ISO image.

Perhaps you own the DVD but it is currently loaned out. I'll make no judgment there.

Mounting an ISO image and ripping re-ripping with ANYDVD, etc. is not likely to fix the bad rip that resulted in the ISO image. When you re-rip it should be from your original DVD.

  6. Haha. Yeah, it's loaned out to a friend and I won't have it til Monday unless I can get a hold of him tomorrow. I suspected that trying to do it from the ISO might have been part of the problem. The only reason I kept trying was because, like I said earlier, it plays perfectly fine in VLC Media Player. I did notice though that if I mounted the ISO before playing it, I would have issues from the copy protection.
