  1. Hi guys, i'm trying to convert a divx file to dvd so i can burn it since I dont have a divx dvd player.
My question is, the divx movie contains a subtitle which can be enabled in VLC. If i convert this with ffmpeg will those subs be in available in the dvd format aswell ? Or do i have to manually select them in ffmpeg?
I saw in a tutorial that you have to check the VOB subtitles box but i cant click it that ? I can only choose to load subs, not sure if that will work though...

    Please help this newbie out.

  2. Btw if i use preview i get this error...

It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.

Are the subtitles embedded (inside the movie file), or do you have external subtitles (subtitles in a separate file, e.g. foo.srt)?

The only instance where you should set "VOB Subtitles" in ffmpegX is when the source file has VOB-style image based subtitles embedded, e.g. a VOB file from DVD source or an MKV with embedded VobSub (idx+sub) subtitles.

For text based subtitles, ffmpegX needs the subtitles to be in a separate file. So, if your subs are embedded, then you'll have to extract them first, to be able to use them in a conversion.

Do not close the Preview or Play window (actually mplayer) using the red close button, but use the keys instead, to prevent mplayer from crashing. The 'q' or 'Esc' key should quit mplayer.

  4. The subtitles are embedded inside the movie file, but not hard burned or how do you call that ?
Thanks about the info for the crashing problem, hope it will work, i'm encoding as we speak.

I've downloaded the same .srt file again and selected it together with the divx, fingers crossed!
