  1. I need a good program for video capture, joining files, and burning. I have Sony Handycam and have been using Imagemixer for several years. I recently got new PC with Windows 7 64 Bit. Imagemixer will not work with Windows 7. I've tried Nero 10 to import vob files and join but there is sound glitches in the finished DVD. I also tried just added menu to finished meg4 movie clip and burned with Nero but the voices are just a bit off from the lips. I haven't tried Sony Vegas but it seems a bit complicated for what I want to do. Thanks for any suggestions on other software options.

What is the source format of the camera ?
What sort of editing do you want to do ?
What sort of output do you want to create ?

You have mentions DVD and mpeg-4, which are not the same.

More details would help you get a better answer.

  3. The camera uses mini dvds and if you rip the finalized disc, you get vob files. I can use old PC with XP and Imagemixer which produces mpeg-4 files. Sony Imagemixer produces excellent finished DVD's but is limited to just under 2Gigs to burn on the DVD and as mentioned will not work with Windows 7. I just want to join vob file segments to a finished event such as several segments of a birthday party. Then I want to burn several events on a DVD with nice menu.

Womble Mpeg Video Wizard is a smart rendering Mpeg-2 editor that can work with your files. It is not free, but it is cheaper than Vegas Movie Studio and simpler to use. It can output to DVD or mpeg-4.

For a free approach you could look at AVI Demux for editing, then GUIForDVDAuthor or DVD Styler for authoring.

You shouldn't work with VOB files. Use VOB2MPG to extract the video and audio into an mpg file and work with those.
