I was in a public library (for which I have a library card) and tried to download a wma audiobook from
Overdrive

but I kept getting an error message.
Looking on Google, I found the following Fix DRM bat script.

that solves the problem. My question is, why is it necessary to first run the script?
I think the average library user would not be successful to figure this out.
I don't understand how DRM in this case can reduce illegal copying. I mean, once you've downloaded the wma , there is nothing physically to stop someone from copying the files and distributing them.
