  1. Hi everyone

I have had my new 50" panny plasma and love it in HD can not fault the quality at all, best on the market what ive seen however the picture quality on SD especially when the kids are watching cartoons leaves me very frustrated. It is as if the picture moves too quickly and the pixals cant keep up. The picture isnt crisp and the outlines are quite jagged. I have a monster cable coneection which costed nearly £100 so I havent skimmed on trying to get the best picture possible. Does anyone have any suggestions if im doing something wrong or have witnessed the same?

You got screwed on the Monster cables. Complete waste of money.

What is the source of the SD material - cable ? VHS ? DVD ? Analogue or Digital FTA ?

    What type of connection ? HDMI ? Component ? S-Video ? Composite ?

Too much temporal smoothing at the broadcaster? Bad motion interpolation by the TV? The latter can be fixed by disabling the feature.

Probably normal for SD upscaled to HD, especially noticeable in cartoons because of the sharp, thin lines.

if its 1 of the latest pannys you will find they suffer from the 50hz bug which leaves it to struggle with fast moving objects and as all of our broadcasting is in 50hz it will suffer, panasonic have admitted to the problem but said it wont be fixed till next years models come out,try watching football with it,its even worse

  6. Is this a plasma problem? I just bought a panny 42" LCD with LED backlight and I don't see the problems that MAC007 noticed.

  8. Hey Mac .. it helps (a lot) if you mention the model name ? and the source or sources(the inputs). Any one who spends £100 on an Hdmi cable is possibly likely to have made a rash judgement in buying their TV.

The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.

  9. Model is TXP50G20B. As mentioned before the HDMI cable goes straight into the Virgin V+ box. I brought the Monster cable 1200EX ultimate high speed 15.8gbps after trying a Panasonic Viera HDMI which was worst.

What are your output settings from the Virgin V+ box? If 1920x1080p/50 all the processing is being done in the Virgin box not the TV.

Do you see a difference playing similar material from DVD?

If you set the V box to 1920x1080 i or p out the scaling is done in the V box. The TV still needs to deal with 50Hz.

If you set the V box to 576 i or p, the TV processor is doing the upscale.
