    Just a general question really..........

    I have an mkv file that I am succesfully able to stream from my netgear nas to my lg reciever........

    Problem is it has subtitles, so I proceeded to remove the subtitles and the extra audio track within using mkvmerge.........

    Now the file does not play when streamed........

    1. Any thoughts to why this might be, is there any process going on within mkvmerge that I am unaware of apart from demuxing/remuxing.....?

    2. I could repackage the file with tsmuxer (so i can keep the dts audio), would this in anyway be of a lesser quality than the original mkv...?As my lg receiver can accept these files I would like to leave them pretty much unchanged if I can....

    Many thanks in advance..................

    1. What version of mkvtoolnix / mkvmergegui did you use? It might be because of compressed mkv headers. Try mkvtoolnix 3.4.0.

    2. No, tsmuxer does not change any quality.

    Thanks for your quick response............I will check my current version and see if it makes a difference......

    And thats good about tsmuxer.........ultimately repacking will give me better playback for both my receiver and the ps3.......

    still playing about with my new sever setup........

    thanks again......

  4. If you have the latest MkvToolNix enable the "Disable header removal compression..." option:

    File -> Options...

    Header removal compression was made the default a while back and it causes problems for many devices. You have to exit the program and restart it for the change to take effect.

    Baldrick indicates reverting back to 3.4 while jagabo makes mention of the ability of the newest version to shut off compression as a default.

    I've tried just about all the versions of MKVtoolNix. from the earliest versions to just prior to the newest release. All the versions up to and including 1.40 except for minor differences in the Gui all seem to work just fine.

    So, I was wondering... is there any advantage to switching to this newer version. Except for causing problems, do the versions after 1.40 do anything better or faster?

    Also, can any of these problems be related to the de-muxer in MKVtoolNix. I remember for the longest time and in version after version the de-muxer didn't work at all for most users. I switched to MKVcleaver years ago and haven't used the MKVoolNix de-muxer since than so could any of the problems be related to the MKVToolNix de-muxer?
