Is there one out there that's freeware, or even commercialware that i can buy, or do you usually have to convert things from .avi or whatever to .mp4? Please advise.
Thanks!

MP4 can container either mpeg-4 (think Xvid) or AVC H64 video. Xvid is reasonable on older machines, although the quality of a single pass encode would have to be tested before you settle on it. AVC requires a lot of grunt. Your system, as indicated in your profile, is not capable of encoding directly to H264 with any level of quality.
What sort of video are capturing ?

hi. I am using a piece of software called Avi screen classic. It just records whatever is on the monitor. Websites, mouse movements, video content, whatever! I am just trying to plug a codec into it that will encode whatever i capture to mp4, so i can play it on an iphone/ipod touch (480x240), rather than having to use divx/xvid and convert it to .mp4. Not a big project, of course. The files i usually capture are only about 5 mb's max.
thanks
