This is what I want to do - take clips of various FPS, resolution and data rates, and cut/combine them into home movies with scene transitions (crossfade and fade only) and titles, then export to the codec of my choosing (or uncompressed). No DVD authoring required. I can re-encode to standard FPS, resolution and rates if required using VirtualDub, I just need a program to let me cut a movie with transitions and titles, preferably on a simple-to-use timeline interface.

I'm currently struggling with Pinnacle Studio+ 10.7, which doesn't seem to be able to reproduce the input video without insisting on changing the audio codec/resolution/interlace.

    Any recommendations ?

Ulead VideoStudio would be my first suggestion. It is pretty robust and handles a fair range of codecs. Nothing will handle all of them without occasional issues, but VS seems to be pretty good.

If you want something more sophisticated then you might look at Vegas Movie Studio

Since this post I got hold of a copy of Sony Vegas 7a - never looked back. Extremely easy to use, capable of dealing with most formats and all types of sizes and frame rates. Does what it says on the tin.

Vegas 7 is a little old though, doesn't support H.264. The Movie Studio 10 version is cheap and loaded with cool stuff.

Movie Studio chokes on HD. its only 32 bit and wont read memory over 2gig. Vegas pro 10 is way better 64bit and handles all formats.
