Using DVD Shrink or PGgcEdit you can apply a different region code to a disk.
I burned an NTSC disk (but selected Region 2) and my unmodified standalone players reject the disk ("wrong region") while my modified (all regions) player accepts it.

Why does my PC burner accept the different region coded disk without complaining ?
It's the understanding that commercial UK disks would require the burner to be reset to Region 2 for playback or backup that I haven't been purchasing those disks from there.

Is the region coding on a commercial disk different from this type of region code?

I don't use any commercial programs that might suppress the Region information.

Region code removal is the EASY part. I've had at least one drive that also ignored the region code on a commercial disc.....and the region code on a disc is easily defeated as far as computers go. Region coding is the least of your worries.

Your burner let you make whatever kind of disc you want. You have a really good burner, not one with a problem!

I realize that is not the type of reply you are looking for, but that is how I would look at it.

ANY burner can add ANY region code to a disc.....even yours.
Again....region coding is a small part of the battle of PAL and NTSC.

The player software is supposed to check the region code set in the drive to the region code on the disc. If they don't match the player isn't supposed to play the disc. Most software players don't bother checking the region codes and in the absence of DSS encryption there's nothing else to stop them. Only "official" players like PowerDVD verify region codes.

In general, if I insert a commercial disk from Region 2 in a DVD burner that is set as Region 1, will the likes of the free software DVDFab HD Decrypter remove that coding without the burner being reset to region 2.

If you plan on copying the disc to your hard drive yes. For simply playing a disc from another region, try a different player or try this:

Or you can play a DVD on a PC with VLC as VLC does not check region coding.
