I noticed that VLC player (I am using the latest version) degrades vertical resolution of some AVI files - aparently it displays every couple of lines in the reverse order. Is there any way to fix it ?

    Try older version of vlc.
    Try other players.

I will, but I will need to install DViX decoder to play this file with Microsoft Media Player. VLC comes its its own decoders.

  5. Try this with one of your "bad" files: While playing in VLC select Video -> Deinterlace -> On, and Video -> Deinterlace Mode -> Bob. Any better?
