  1. Hello. Sorry if this question was posted in another thread. Right now I'm upconverting my standard def Dish signal to 1080i through a DVD recorder. It only up converts through HDMI. There are some TV programs that you can't get on DVD that I would like to record and add to my iTunes library.

I know you can capture a standard def analog signal to the Mac using a HD codec, but it is my understanding the image will still be standard def. I want to upscale the image to 1080 using the Mac (hopefully in real time), using an iTunes compatible codec, that I can watch in 1080 on an HDTV. I have a 2006 Intel 1.8 Core One Duo Mac mini running Leopard (I can't run Snow Leopard because my Mac is 32 bit). Thanks for your help.

The only thing I know of would be a Hauppage a/v converter. However, there really is no reason to upconvert on your Mac. Your TV will upconvert to 1080 for you and likely do just as good a job or better. Do you really see any difference in quality when going through the DVDR as opposed to plugging the Dish box straight into your TV?

Might want to spring for the HD Dish box if you can afford it. I hear they are very nice.

When I converted my Dish to HD they charged a $10.00 monthly fee for the HD service, and they supplied two HD receivers at no charge. There is a $7.00 monthly charge for the second receiver.
