I have a newer dvd burned that allows for double layer burning but not sure how double layer works can someone enlighten me.

can you put one movie on one layer and another on another layer and do you have to burn them at the same time if it is a +r or are the layers seperate.

DVDs burn the first layer from the inner to the outer edge. The laser then changes focus to the next layer, and burns back in from the outer to the inner edge. The layers are not something you can treat as separate areas. The second layer is dependent on the first layer being written, and can only occupy the same amount of space as was written to the first layer (or less). When authoring a DL DVD you have only a small area (usually) in which you can set your layer break in order to have it burn correctly. I have done a few DL DVDs, and all have been successful.

I would only use Verbatim DL +R DVD blanks, and only burn with Imgburn.

thanks, that helps me. I always use Imgburn in conjunction with DVD Flick as it seems the best way to Burn DVD's for my purpose anyway.
