  1. hey guys,
i wanna do alot of capturing at high quality (big picture, clear, and excellent frame rate) and was wondering if this is an appropriate setup for what im looking to do.

    1.1Ghz AMD
    ATI All-In-Wonder 128
    SoundBlaster Gamer
    256mb memory

i can easy add more memory if that'll do anything.
im in the process of switching over to XP (from win2k) and just using the encoding software ATI packages w/ the card.

Ive tried some freeware encoding prog called IuLab and the best i could out of it w/o dropping lots of frames was like 12 frames/s uncompressed <- but it really wasnt setup right anyways so im not sure if it'll always be limited by that or not.

My ATI card is 16mb btw

Do i have a nice enough setup, should i switch TV-in cards, get a faster CPU, go ahead and add more memory (what would taht do)?

    thanks guys :)

if you can afford a faster CPU then yes.

Encoding uses the CPU more than anything so the faster CPU will lower ur encoding times.

You might also consider an ATI Radien 8500DV or a hardware encoder.

I think ur memory will be ok, maybe if u could get up to 512

  3. what would more memory do for my ripping?
Ya i checked that card out, it does look nice. Alot of people on epinions.com also have hyped it up.

and for $166 i figure its worth it.

As far as a faster cpu, you dont think 1.1ghz would do much? A faster cpu would just allow me to capture more frames?

Thanks so much for your help :)!

  4. would u just over clock my 1.1ghz? like to 1.4ghz? how much difference would i see from 1.1ghz to 1.4ghz or from 1.1ghz to 2ghz

  5. any1 know how much difference id see as far as frame rate/quality if i went from 1.1ghz to 1.4 (from overclocking)? would i really need an even faster cpu then that to capture? <- or should i just focus on upgrading my tv-in card (ALL IN WONDER RADEON 8500DV)

    THANKS ALOT! :)

  6. Another thing to look at is your harddrive, both it's size and it's speed. If your harddrive speed is 5400rpm, upgrading to a 7200rpm would help reduce dropped frames when capturing.

  7. Ya i just use 7200rmp. I just got a 80gig 7200 so thast not a problem.
Just at the beginning of this thread i was told that a fast cpu could improve things. But if im using a 1.1ghz AMD and overclock it to 1.4 <- would i get good frames outa that?

can any1 predict what the difference in frame rate be?

Thanks so much for your help :)

  8. they guy from thread:
    http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=81808
    was using a 750mhz processor w/ 256mb memory?

wouldnt 1.1 or 1.4ghz w/ twice the memory get real good quality and a high frame rate?

Plus, again what would more memory do for me? And if the cpu determans how high the frame rate is... then whats a "better" tv-in card going to do?

Thanks for any feedback and help :))

  9. at link:

    http://www.pcinsight.com/reviews/aiw128/aiw1284.asp

ill cite a quote from the "video Capture" part

"Even on this lowly Celeron 400 and an older Quantum hard disk, I was able to capture video at 720x480 at a rate of 30 fps and not a frame was dropped!"

^that was supposed to be an uncompressed capture... but isnt that enough? i thought 29.0 fps was standard... surely (since i have 1.1amd and will over clock it to 1.4) <- id have more then enough?
