hi i'm importing some avi files intoTOTAL MEDIA THEATRE or indeed COREL STUDIO and they are around 700mb each,but when they arrive they grow to over 4gb!!!!
how can this be and how can i fix it please?
the files are 90mins each.

That's because your "AVI files" are compressed to hell and back from their original size down to their present size. Your software is trying to make them DVD compliant(MPEG2) again.
