  1. I know there are desktop NTSC DVD players that are able to play PAL DVDs and output the picture to a NTSC TV. Are there (internal) PC DVD writers that are able to do the same?
I want to order a DVD series that is only available in PAL (from Australia). But in order to play the discs on any DVD player in the US or Canada, I was wondering if it is possible to back them up with a PC writer and convert them to the NTSC format at the same time?

Pc's dont care about formats ... but when it's with commercial dvd title's on disc's its region codes come into effect.

Ripping and converting out at the same time is a bit rough on the drive ... easier to rip it all in one go to the pc then do the conversion .

    As for a guide , it's long > here

Just remember ... pal (4:3) to nstc = not easy ... you have to make a compromise.

  3. From reading your link -- if it was just a movie (no menus), I would probably give it a try, but being a series with menus and several episodes on each disc, it doesn't sound it's worth the trouble.
The series is supposed to be region-free, so I may order it anyway and hope the discs will play on a player that can handle PAL and NTSC. Thanks for your help.

  4. Get a DVD player that is region free, Philips or Pioneer, in the USA you have easy access to:-

believe me , converting is a complete waste of time. I have even bought a dvd player for relatives who wanted to get out of country dvd's, it was cheaper !
