  1. Hello. I have a 1.5GB HD file - 10min long. I want to be able to put it into a DVD Disc and be able to watch it from there without losing the resolution? Is there any option? Can I make it a DATA DVD and put the file there with some sort of an autorun? Is there anything that can be done - so that when i give it to a person who knows nothing about computers - he can put the DVD into the PC and watch the video on its full resolution?
    Thank you very much!

  2. Make a data DVD and add MPCHC, they will have to install MPCHC first.

  3. Another idea that does not involve any installations?

  4. Not likely, what format is the video?
    If it's WMV a PC will play it natively, if it's MOV a Mac will play it natively.

  5. Any Windows PC (XP and above) will automatically read and play a disc if it recognizes the filetype. That's the key, what filetype is your video? Assuming a basic PC, it would have Windows Media Player; the video filetypes supported are WMV, MPG, AVI and MOV (like Moviegeek was telling you). If the file is one of those format, Media Player will come up and most likely will be missing a CODEC, so it will ask to go to the net and get it. There's 2 ways to avoid that, make the video compatible with what's available (probably means re-encoding to a standard resolution) or supply an app that will natively handle the video (as suggested by Moviegeek); that's obviously the easiest. If you want to avoid installing software, then use the portable version (VLC Portable would have been nice, but it doesn't support running from CD anymore). Download and install it to a folder on your drive. Include the contents of that folder on the DVD with the video. In Notepad make a file with these lines:

    [autorun]
    open = mplayerportable.exe \your video filename.with extension

    Save the file and rename it autorun.inf and include it on the DVD, too.

  6. Hey there. Thanks a lot. I actually tried that right before i posted here. Now that you've suggested the media player - I tried that as well - nothing happens. It doesn't start anything... I made the autorun.inf file ... the application and the mpg file is there... but when the DVD enters - nothing happens...?

    Does the person you're giving this to have a bluray player or ps3? If so why not make a avchd disc? Use multiavchd or tsmuxer and make a avhcd dvdr. Then they can pop it into their bluray player and 99% of the time it should load just fine plus be in high def (though official avchd specs don't allow for dts audio but some systems do play it out of spec - you could use eac3to to convert to ac3).

    If they have bluray software on their computer than they can also play the avchd disc without additional installations.

  8. Nope. I'm from Eastern Europe - almost no one has a BlueRay yet

  9. If autorun is turned off, as it often will be, you will have to manually click on the autorun file.

  10. clicking on the autorun.inf opens up Notepad...?

  11. Double click the my computer icon on the desktop, then right click your DVD drive icon and choose autorun. Are you sure it's an MPG file? Then, what's the resolution? Get mediainfo to check it. If it's 720x576 or less, then it's standard res and Windows media player should be able to open it without additionnal CODEC. As soon as the DVD is inserted in a Win Xp (or higher) PC, the disc will be scanned and it should play the file.
