  1. a friend of mine asked me to make a recovery cd for his new laptop(no software included in the box) never used this software before, but I have a feeling the recovery disk with current system is the best option after I removed all of the crapware from the system

  2. 1st your attachment is invalid. I'd never heard of this program, so I did a quick search. Doesn't look too good when the results are mostly about problems with a program. Seems everybody and his dog is getting in the recovery software, these days. Ghost was the original, then Acronis came around and was pretty good. This commoditization must be the reason you can get recovery software for free. I don't know about Onekey, apparently it's from Cyberlink, but there's no mention of it on their site. I trust Acronis True Image and Ghost; all the HDD manufacturers have a free scaled down version (like at WD for example), you just need to get the one for your drive brand. It will let you create a bootable ISO image that you would simply burn to DVD; then just boot from the disc to recover. Or, you can create the image on a USB drive, if the file is too large for disc. You can also try Macrium Reflect; the free version is scaled down too. You should look at getting the full version of Acronis, it's so much more useful. You can install a recovery manager on the drive and access it at boot time, just by pushing F11. This manager is also on the boot CD and will create backups of any filesystem.

  3. The software came with her new Lenovo laptop G550 she bought from newegg.com

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834146772&cm_re=LENOVO_G550-_-34...-772-_-Product

I ended up removing all the junk and choose "recovery disk with current system" for backup.
time will tell if it's going to work or not

    Thanx for the help

    BTW. the attachment does work.
