    Hi Gents,

I trying to get away from a mysterious AV sync issue by hoping that I did something "wrong" to start with when attempting to extract the audio (in .cda form) from a cd and convert it straight to plain old Microsoft PCM 16 bit/48k/Stereo & unsigned. I actually ended up with a .wav file. When matched-up with the video it was out of sync! If & when necessary, I'll go into details about the AV sync issue.

I used Media Info in determining the audio properties.

What's the difference between a ."wav" file and a PCM?

What process, apps or series of steps would you reccomend in order to get accurate & hopefully matchable results in this case?

    Thank you.

No difference just go straight to .wav. What exactly are you trying to sync up ? a video file with the audio from a CD ?

  3. A WAV file can contain compressed audio. But it's usually uncompressed.

That is correct. The audio from my onboard mini-dv tape was too ambient and was therfore trying to match up that video with another source of audio which was recorded at the same time ... a direct feed from the main mixer.

The weird thing is the clip when matched up with the extracted audio from the cd was in exact AV sync on the beginning and then quickly became out of sync. I can't explain it or figure it out!

Is there a program out there that isn't adware or spyware infested that takes the audio straight from a .cda file and it ends up as a PCM?

I'm looking for a uncompressed result.

Any ideas about the out of sync problem as described above?

Does a compressed WAV versus uncompressed PCM have any potential for trouble?

If you didn't have the camera and the desk sync'd via SMTP or similar then you cannot guarantee that outputs of each will be in sync. Consumer DV cameras don't even offer this function in most (all ?) cases and are not the most accurate when it comes to timing. We have an enthusiastic amateur come and video some events with multiple HD cameras - a mix of consumer and pro-sumer kit, and he also takes a feed directly from our mixing desk to his Mac laptop. None of it syncs up correctly and no matter how often we explain the reason, he simply cannot understand. Bottom line - if you all your kit isn't working from the same time code, you will get drift.

Well, since the GL-2 was situated about/up to 150 feet from where the audio/sound engineers and I was on my own, I had no choice but to use the onboard mic.

Was not wired into master control.

I'm shooting in SD with a single camcorder and yes it's does not have SMPTE.
