New to Video Help so here it goes !
Alright, I'm working on getting my hands on the Hauppauge HD PVR
http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr.html
Thing is I'm using a simple 23' Acer Widescreen monitor with DVI and HDMI hookups only.
The Hauppauge uses Component cables to do its thing so this is my question
I don't have to worry about audio already have that figured out so its just the video i'm working on. And if its any help the source of video is my ps3/wii/pc
Is it possible to make my setup go from Component cables > DVI - D single link so I can use my current monitor. Otherwise Ill have get this one.

If its any good of course.
I might be forgetting something I've been frantically trying to find the anwser to this.
I have found a few adapters that transfer Component to DVI - I then another adapter to go from DVI - I to DVI - D, Alot of adapters there tho and I am afraid it will degrade the signal.

Component to DVI-D adapters will lower quality unless very expensive. Cheaper to buy a low end HDTV.
I have the Samsung 2333HD and its OK. You could run a dual monitor setup and have a full 1920x1080 ASTC/QAM HDTV as well. The 2333HD has all the inputs and allows DVI-D and HDMI switchable connections.
There is a newer model of that TV out there. That is why the 2333HD is cheap now. If you want to use it primarily as a TV, the new one has better image processing.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Well the reason I am opting for a monitor over an HDTV is at that size 20ish inch the difference between 1080 and 720 is not really noticeable. But I like full hd. Ill look into the new model I just gotta find it.
+ At the between 20-32 inch there are very few HDTVs that I have found that even do 1080.
But The only reason I would be using the monitor is for Gaming Wii and PS3. I watch all my tv on my comp so.Last edited by Veldimare; 17th May 2010 at 17:02. Reason: Grammar + additions

You will see a huge difference if you use it as a computer monitor and sit 15 inches away. You will need to use the "just scan" mode on the 2333HD for sharpest text. I agree if you watch from 5 feet as a TV, you won't see a great deal of difference 720p to 1080p.
The 2333HD gives you many more options for watching TV. It is a 1920x1080p computer monitor that has the full complement of LCD-TV features including ATSC/QAM tuner, inverse telecine, deinterlace and analog conversion. It is a deal at $239. The downside is it is a 2 year old design so the later model will do better for deinterlace and upscale.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

I am having a problem finding the later model. I have found the 2333HD and a 2333SW but nothing else.

Here they are. The newest are even adding 120Hz and 3D.

Expect to pay more.
PS: I expect 3D for gaming to be the next big thing.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Only problem with 3d and why it think its going to fail in the first year is the fact you gotta wear those glasses. I think Nintendo has it right with the new 3d hand held. I'm pretty sure you don't need glasses to get the 3d effect which is where we need to go if they want 3d to be worthwhile. But IMO 3d is the first step to virtual reality which is what I really want.
Just bought the Hauppauge so I gotta decide on a monitor now. Thanks for the link.
Now I am looking at these. But the first thing I notice is the lack of inputs. Most have the DVI / Component hookups. Which is fine but HDMI with DVI and Component would be preferable. Ill keep looking at these maybe I am missing something
Hmm nvm Think I found what I was looking for.Last edited by Veldimare; 17th May 2010 at 18:40.

What did you find? I just noticed the HD models aren't on that page.
Here are some but I recall there was a T series with HD tuner/processing as well. http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/office/monitors/premium/index.idx?pagetype=subtype
This is the direct replacement but the 2333HD has a "-1" upgrade.

I ended up getting the 2333HD-1. Should be just what I am looking for.
