dvddecrypter to vob files to avi problems with subtitle

so i am putting all my dvds onto a hard drive im basically done im just onto my anime so ive done about 150 dvds with pretty much no problem not with the anime i want the japanese with english subtitles..

when i use dvd decrypter and extract the ifo files to the comp then i load the ifo into auto gordian knot and i choose japanese for the language and i choose english subtitles now when i play the vob in vlc its in japanese and has subtitles although by default it is disabled. the final result from agk is in japanese but with no subtitles any suggestions on what i should do here? thanks alot

ok update some of the subtitles are there after i convert .vob to .avi but not all of it??? seems to add subtitles towards the end of the file ? thanks again

Post the log. You're not checking either of the subtitle boxes in the Advanced Settings are you?

If worse comes to worst, extract the subs yourself (or take the ones AutoGK extracts from an earlier failed encode) and add them in using the CTRL-F8 trick. Or get them from a subtitle site.

Hey thanks for responding. how do i post the log? sorry ima total noob at this stuff...i am checking the subtitle box in autogk like i normally do worked fine with all my other movies i tried to extract the subtitles from the vob file but to be honest i dont really know what im doing lol ive never heard of the ctrl-f8 trick but ill try to do that..im assuming i do that in autogk? thanks again ill post if i get it to work

Here's Baldrick's guide to using CTRL-F8 to get a separate subtitle file into AutoGK to be hard coded into the video:

The log will be titled something like *filename*_agk_agk.log

For ordinary subtitles to be burned into the video, you don't go into the Advanced Settings and you don't check either of the 2 subtitle boxes in there. If they're checked now, uncheck them. And it's a good idea to run the preview before doing the encoding. If you don't see subs in the preview, you won't see them in the finished AVI either.

If there's more than one subtitle file from which to choose, are you making sure to choose the right one?

as far as choosing the right one in autogk i honestly dont know which is the right one but i have tried them both i generally choose the top one which has seemed to work for me in the past its just this one move thats not carrying over the subtitles in the final product

ok i feel like im annoying and im sorry lol so i got the subtitles and got them into an srt form i did the CTRL f8 thing added them did the prewview and no subtitles? again when i did it my normal way that worked fine for over 100 movies it had some subtitles but it didnt start until half way through which i thought was really strange ? any other suggestions? thanks!

i tried to use dvdshrink because it allows you to choose the subtitles and audio before ripping it to a .vob file but it still didnt work...

You say they didn't start until halfway through? When they started, were they the subs for that dialog, or for dialog at the beginning. The reason I ask is that it's possible the timestamps are off. Check the IDX if you still have it to make sure the times given correspond to the episode(?) you're doing. Also check the SRT to make sure the times given correspond to the times when the dialog is supposed to be spoken.

If the subs are delayed, they can always be retimed pretty easily.

ok your correct the timing must be off because the subtitles that are there do not go with the story.what program do i use to fix this?

wow it appears that the subtitles are aprox 38 mins off from where they should be thats a big difference...

You can adjust the delay for either VobSubs (IDX/SUB) or SRT subtitles in the Synchronize tab of SubtitleCreator. When done, play the subs along with the AVI via DirectVobSub (name the subs the same as movie (Movie.avi and Movie.srt)). Adjust the delay until you get it right. When you have it, reencode the AVI with the subs added to AutoGK with CTRL-F8.

wow i didnt catch this before because i wasnt worried about watching the whole movie i was involved with the subtitles and this might be a big reason behind my problems but when i use dvd decrypter or dvd shrink to get the vob files its not taking the whole movie its a 3 disc part and turns out disc 1 that i thought was ok is infact being cut off as well? any suggestions on how to rip the entire disc and why its not creating all the vob files are there a limit to vob files i think its only creating 5 per disc but again its not all there?

Suggestions? No, not without a lot more info. Perhaps you have different Titles (PGCs) in the same VTS. Maybe post a pic from VobBlanker. Open the DVD in VobBlanker, highlight the movie in the upper screen so it appears in the lower screen and take a pic for posting here.

just wanted to say i think i finally got everything working i dont know why but one of my dvd readers wasnt ripping the whole dvd? but my other one was? who knows but everything seems to be going good now i did as good of a job as i could with subtitle workshop the subtitles are pretty close. thanks for all your help

You should not use DVDDecryptor but NeroRecode with compile a DVD and DVD-9 instead.
After that you have nearby the same as with decryptor but without sub troubles and you can use the results in AutoGK with ease .
