Prosumer 720p camcorder choices?

I am looking to get an HD camcorder finally and it seems like most of them are 1080i. I was hoping to get away from deinterlacing my content so I'd prefer a 720p model. Are they any from the likes of the typical companies like Sony, Canon, etc?

not much in the prosumer area at 720p. the canon hv30/40 will shoot 1080 30p nicely. the next step up is probably the jvc 720 60p cams. and it's quite a large step.

Ouch. OK, how about regular consumer camcorders? I don't understand why 720p was jumped to 1080i, which is interlaced and a higher rez. You would think 720p would be more common. I'm even willing to take the resolution hit! I don't need family videos any higher than that.

720p60 and 1080i30 (which most companies are now calling 1080i60) require about the same bandwidth (about the same number of pixels per second). This is why they were chosen for broadcast. I don't know why camcorders manufacturers don't allow for 720p60.

The JVC GY-HM100U is the best choice under $4000 for 1280/720p @ 59.94 fps. It is optimized for 720p and has 3 full resolution CCD sensors, not a single CMOS bayer filtered sensor found on consumer models.

It will also shoot 1080i and 24p.

What's with the "ouch"? You asked for Pro-Sumer. Some sites are selling NAB demo units for $2800.
