both record just fine ...I'm using a best buy hd tuner box on L2

but now have basic cable, but neither machine will allow me to fix the clock

and won't allow me to change from antenna to cable

the buttons are not grayed out, and there are no error messages

    wtf is going on?

I've pulled the power cord before and it didn't help

maybe there's a dead internal clock battery that needs replacing b4 it'll respond?! eh?

Try holding down both the CH up and CH down buttons on the main unit for at least 10 seconds. The unit should turn OFF and revert to 12:00. This does a factory reset and will clear all your settings (but does nothing to HDD titles).
Both your models have TVGOS and it sounds like you've lost your TVGOS signal which controlled your clock.

Your TVGOS may or may not come back. Analog TVGOS OTA died with the analog shutoff although if you have a digital station broadcasting the TVGOS signal you may be able to use a DTVPal CECB to do the digital to analog TVGOS conversion for you. Cable is a different story, if they've stopped injecting the TVGOS signal in your analog cable (or have moved that analog channel to only digital which your Panny cannot tune) you're SOL
People are really starting to have TVGOS issues lately with cable and many have to resort to all manual events without the use of the nice TVGOS guide, good luck.

    ya....the guide is toast

but my cheapo deluxe hd box has broadcast info

so it's no big deal...I don't record as much as I used to anyways

and basic cable is pretty much a waste

the channels I record are mostly broadcast....lol

the success truly was the time....so regaining control of that was the main deal for me

It sure would be neat to try to add a digital tuner ....but I don't have the time to try
