Is there an app that allows you to record DVD's in real time using a standard DVD burner? I.e. not capturing then rendering but just going directly to DVD. Ideally an app that would take DV input from firewire via my Dig8 camcorder.

    Thanks

I believe VideoStudio used to offer something along these lines, and a few of the cheapo USB capture toys offer it. You need a CPU fast enough to do the encoding in real time (single pass only) or a capture card that has mpeg-2 hardware assist. And you can't use your PC for anything else while it is recording.

Yes ulead videostudio but the interface was as much as drain ... nero reloaded was far better with less interface lag for direct to disc. Of course going from dv to disc wouldnt be much fun due to the amount of space required so there has to be some form of compression taking place.

The avermedia dvd ezymaker pci delux supports direct to disc provided system meets or exceeds system requirements.

The pinnacle usb dongle has the direct to disc recording you are looking for. I think hauppauge is the main player now in usb models however. I would check their website for manuals on whether or not they also have direct to disc recording.

Hmm...the name "Pinnacle" doesn't fill me with confidence. Any personal experience using it?

  12. Maybe LiquidTV?

Sounds like you want to build your own PVR. There is a website for that byopvr.com

Not necessarily, though it seems lnteresting. Just exploring to see if there was an app to do it as I find there often is when I get a notion to do something.
