    I have a Sony HVR-HV1000E

I'm having trouble getting video from the camcorder

I've connected to an old Pentium 4 with XP (fully uptodate) that has a firewire card
When the camcorder is connected - it isn't recognised - I don't hear a light beep that sounds when a device is connected

I have tried connecting to a Vitsa laptop
    This recognises the camcorder
When I try to use the defaukt Windows software to download the video, the ONLY option available is to download the entire video
I don't want the entire video - I just want to get 5 minutes!

I've tried DVIO - it says that there's no camcorder connected
I've tried WinDV - it says 'Error: Device not found'
I've tried Scenalyzer - same thing, no device

    Where am I going wrong?
Do I need a special drive for the camcorder or something?

    Thanks

    OM

i found my own answer in the end
u have to refer to the camcorders manual

by default, it was set to output as hdv
what i needed was to make the output be dv

hope this is of use to others!
