I gathered up some mp3s, and sent them to the disc drive of my WinVista PC.

After I filled up the queue, burned, and finalized the disc, it won't play in any mp3 compatible cd player. (Car, Stereo)

My PC recognizes the MP3 files on the cd-r just fine, but not any players. I know the PC burnt it a specific way, so that's why it recognizes the disc. I just don't get why my cd players don't.

What gives? The original method worked in XP...

Did you burn as a data cd with mp3 files? Does your cd player support mp3? If not then burn as an audio cd. WMP should be able to do that.

  3. If you burned a data disc be sure it was finalized.

Yes, yes, and I have no problem with burning CD-DA through WMP.

    Sure did.

The way I did this was to right click on the MP3s, and send them to the disc drive (E:\) with a blank disc loaded.

When I was done filling up the disc, I burned, and finalized it. The default Windows Vista 32bit component, which allowed me to create the data disc, isn't the same as the one used in WinXP...?

I've used the same method successfully, or at least I think remembering I did, several years ago on WinXP. ~ The last time I burned a MP3 cd-r.

Well, who knows what Windows will do when you "send files to the disc".

If you want a bit more control and idea of what's happening, use a proper burning app, like ImgBurn.

In that, using "build mode", (or in Ez mode, "write files/folders to disc"), just choose the files, drop them into the file list window, click the green triangle to burn to make an MP3 data disc.

It can also make an audio CD, a little less intuitive, choose "Tools/Create CUE file" and then add your audio files (MP3, whatever).

  6. Did you burn in multiple sessions or one single session? The former can be problematic with many players. I don't know what the defaults are in XP and Vista but there are two main file systems used on data CDs: ISO 9660 and UDF. Some devices require one or the other.

Hey thanks, that worked great. The disc now works. I think it might have something to do with IMGBurn creating a dual 'ISO9660 + UDF' compatible disc.
