  1. im trying to backup a dvd with multiple episodes and although the initial 20 min fairuse 'rip" to the harddrive worked fine, the program crashed shortly afterwards and i cannot resume the project without fairuse crashing.
it seems to scan each episode upon opening the project however when it comes to the fourth episode the program crashes.

could it be that maybe the fourth episode is a bonus episode and perhaps in a different aspect ratio?

Try first ripping your dvd to an iso using dvddecrypter then open in fairusewizard. I have seen it crash when attempting direct from dvd conversion, none else.

  4. ok tried your suggestion (rip to iso) and still having the same exat problem.
fairuse crashes in the same spots.
first crash after analysis. (but it does save a project file)
second crash about 1 minute after opening that project file (after cropping the last of 4 episodes)

  5. I have an answer and a question. To rip DVD to avi, try using the free trial of DVDFab Platinum (choose mobile from menu).
My question: Since DVDFab Platinum is pay software that specializes in copying DVDs, it seems to me that it would work (when Fair Use Wizard fails.) Are there any drawbacks when using DVDFab Platinum to rip DVDs to AVI?
I've never tried using DVDFab Platinum to rip to AVI, (always use it to make DVD copy) but I would like to hear other people's experiences. Also, I'm not sure how DVDFab Platinum would deal with multi-episode DVDs when converting to AVI.

octeuron, are you converting all the segments, or just the ones greater than 20 minutes or so? Try starting from the second one in the chain and see if that makes a difference. Also what version are you using, what codecs do you have installed? Are you codecs outdated?

i tried one segment at a time and it worked.
i guess I will just do it like that even though it is more time consuming.

i am using the free version of fairuse (2.9le) but i did always wonder about which codecs i have installed and if they are good or not or outdated.
is there a way that i can find this out?

    thanx
