I don't care if I have to pay if it means I only have to use one app and it's easy to use. I want to back up about 80 dvds to my mediasmart server. Not concerned at the moment about space as I won't be backing up my blurays. Just my hd-dvds but that will come later and I only have about 10 of those anyway.

So any recommendations? I remember DVDFab. Can I use that to backup to ISO?

If the DVD is decrypted and you want it 'as is' just use ImgBurn and burn the VIDEO_TS folder as a ISO to your hard drive. For DVDs, DVD Fab should work well enough for decryption.

If you wanted to do this with Blu-rays, you could use AnyDVD HD decrypter and burn the file as a ISO. But with BDs, you normally want to reduce the size to something manageable. BD Rebuilder, RipBot and others can do that. If you just want the main movie with no re-encoding, maybe tsMuxeR and get rid of extra audio, video and subs. But you would still have a ~15 - 25GB main movie, depending on the main movie size.

I actually ended up trying out DVD Fab but that just rips to folders with the vob files? Not possible to create the iso without me having to use another app to create it?

Just use IMGBURN to build the ISO from the vob files.

Click where the circle is and choose the destination *.iso when you set up the decrypting process

    DVD Shrink + AnyDVD
    1. Open Disc
    2. Backup!
    3. Target Device ---> Select backup target: ---> ISO Image file:

Since AyDVD is running in the background you only need DVD Shrink to backup

AnyDVD trial period is 21 days.
If you backup within this time period it will cost you nothing.
DVD Shrink is easy to use hence the suggestion.

  11. If your doing a lot of dvd's imgburn has a queue option in it.
also if you plan on doing a lot of dvd rips you could look into something like the sony vgp-xl1b3
Its a 200 disc dvd burner/changer that goes through firewire.. Ive got one and its awesome. i load 200 dvd's in and run imgburns queue feature and it just rips them one by one overnight to iso's.
can also load 200 blanks and do a mass backup of iso's
