  1. Hi,

I have an Imac and have ordered a Pioneer dvdr. I would like to make some backups of some dvds that are single sided. I found somewhere on this site what is needed but have searched and not been able to find it again. Any help is appreciated. I have DVDextractor. .09.

    Thanks, Jerry

The external DVD writer you ordered will not arrive with any DVD-Video authoring software to properly format your DVD to play in a settop player. Right now, Apple's US$999 DVD Studio Pro is the only game in town, and good luck finding it in your favorite warez locations.

You will be able to write DVD data discs with Toast, and although I haven't tried it yet myself, if you rip a DVD that itself is under 4.3gb total, you can write the exact file structure to DVD via Toast and it might work. You just have to create the video_ts and audio_ts folders, leaving the audio_ts folder empty.

Has anyone tried that? I'm eventually gonna get over it and buy DVD Studio Pro, even at its $1,000 price point. It will let you burn anamorphic widescreen content to DVD just like the professional programs for Windows does (currently all "hobbyist" level authoring softwares force 4:3 aspect).
