  1. Hi all,

I encode all my video file with Premiere elements 8.

So, I have some files in ".f4v" and ".mov" extenstion encoded with the H.264 codec but JW Player only works with .mov extension.
If I try to use JW Player with f4v file, I can see a lot of freeze with the video but the sounds didn't freeze.

With an ".mov" extension, you can see an example : http://www.lespotes.org/TEST/test.php

    1) Do you know why ?

And now, you can test with one ".mov" file and one ".f4v" file.

It works great with the ".mov" file but it takes a while before beginning and I didn't see any buffering.

Why with the ".f4v" there are a lot of freezes ? :'(

    2) Do you know why there are no buffering info while starting ?

If you try to see this video http://www.magazinevideo.com/video-details.php?videoId=289 , we can see the buffering info between 0 % until 100 %.
How to display this option ?

    3) How to set the bandwith with quiktime ? When I click on "reglages" when I want to export, I can't set what I want. By default, the video is encoded with MAIN@L3.1 but I want HIGH@L4.0.

    Maybe it's because I don't have wuicktime PRO ?

    Many thanks !

i use the jwplayer, but with .mp4 or .flv. i've never heard of .f4v being used for anything but video only.

  3. Hi,

I don't know how to generate some .mp4 with Premiere Elements 8, is it possible?

.f4v is the output file generated by premiere elements when I choose "flash video" with H.264 plugin. The quality is very good but I have some freezes as you can see : http://www.lespotes.org/TEST/test.php

    Thanks !

i don't use elements, so i can't help you there. but, you could try editing in elements and then rendering to a lossless avi - huffyuv or lagarith. then use mediacoder on the avi to make .mp4, which would allow all the adjustments like level.

  5. Hi,

I have done some tests but I always have some freezes. I used lagarith to export in AVI then, I used mediacoder to encode in H.264 with MP4 container.

    You can see my last test (which name "1280*720 - 1M - MP4") => http://www.lespotes.org/TEST/test.php

  6. The reason your .mov doesn't play immediately is you need fast start enabled

The "pausing" is likely from b-frames. The mov doesn't have any b-frames, but both your .mp4 and .f4v do. I've noticed new versions of jw player (or maybe it's because of new flash updates) started playing worse with b-frames. Not using b-frames means worse compression (lower quality at a given bitrate)

I think the buffering display is a function of the front end, not sure if jw supports this. It might be called "bufferlength" or something similar in the code, or you might need a skin to display it

Quicktime doesn't support high profile , but you should be able to enter a bitrate
