WHAT IS A SCREENER?

I know what a "cam " is but some D/L refer to being a "screener not a cam" so whats a screener.

I think thats an officially released version intended only for film critics/ test screenings on advance audiences prior to general release. Should you have a friend that deals in these then introduce me to him.

bilbogod is correct. A screener is an advance copy of a movie that the studios send out to various people. Most of the time usually movie reviewers and the Rental stores that you go to. The screener is basically what the Rental places use to determine how many of the movie they choose to buy. They usually come out months before the official release of the film. I used to work for a Video rental store and we would recieve screeners almost everyday. The only thing that was a drawback is that the screeners usually had a scroolling message either through the middle of the screen itslf or just on the bottom saying that this is a screener and blah blah blah. Besides that the movie is a very close representation of how the movie will look when it gets released to the market for purchase or rental. Hope this helps.

True, most major studios use VHS screeners for movie reviewers, who cant get to a studio sponsered screening, to review the film. Lots of studios have been sending out DVD screeners as well.

Screeners are also used for Academy members during the awards process. That way members can watch the flicks at home, without
going to the theater.

I think Howard Stern is a screener so they don't all suck. I think he got their atteention be talking about movies so much that the movie studios just started sending him advanced copies.
