I am looking to buy some DVD RWs. How do I know which to buy 4x or 8x? I can't find any info in my recorder manual.
thanks.

It would be helpful if you posted the dvd recorder or dvd burner you're using.

Disks are cheap enough now for 'trial and error'
Good quality 4x(2x compatable) would probably be the safe option.
I had a recorder not so long ago that (despite what it said on the box) would only accept certain brands of 2x media and even these failed after a while. -
Your recorders may not work with 4x or 8x discs, FYI.

I agree with lordsmurf. Generally speaking, it's best to get 2x DVD-RWs (Version 1.1, I believe) for standalone recorders. Most don't support faster (Version 1.2, I think) DVD-RWs.
