  1. Hello folks,

I don't consider myself a noob, yet I have difficulties in figuring what the heck went wrong with my system after installation of quicktime alternative.

I usually use VLC to play all my video media files. I also have DivX player installed on my machine. After installation of quick time alternative (and Voddler), I started facing weird problem. If I play XviD video in VLC, no video is present, just black screen, audio is fine. If I play the same file in DivX player, video plays fine and no audio. I tried this with wide variety of files and the result is same.
I checked with GSpot and it shows that XviD as well as mp3 codecs are installed. I am not getting a clue what went wrong. Till these installations were performed, everything was fine.

I uninstalled all video softwares, codecs I could and reinstalled, same thing.

Any help is solving this issue is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

quicktime alternative shouldn't cause any problem with VLC.

But if no video in VLC it's probably a video overlay / hardware acceleration problem. If you have dual monitors you might have to change the primary monitor. Google for overlay vlc for more tips.

  3. VLC -> Tools -> Preferences -> Video (button on left) -> Display (box) -> Output (pulldown)

    Try the different options.
